Alert

"Wake up! Wake up! Turn to your side, kick and switch that button off"!!!

Roused to the awareness: no one was around.

The warnings echoed nonetheless.

To ascertain, if in fact

The pins and needles, numbness are real,

And not in dream,

The ringing actually is in the ears,

And not the buzz of machines

Lulling at night,

I sat bolt upright.

With drive to squish the sensation

Of being an automaton,

Involuntary hand reached

Back of the head to turn off

The button!

There was none.

Yet, I pressed.

It kept traveling, the panic.

Not to be able to function like before!

Vegetative state is not for me.

If life pitched this my way,

Euthanasia over anything else.

Should that day come,

Solution is for all systems shut down.

Body proceeded to beep the alarm!
